There are a ship and many people in this picture.all the person are waiting for john Cabot's coming.John Cabot looks very young and awe-inspiring in this picture. An old man who looks very distinguished is holding his hand.all the person seems respect him very much.i think maybe this picture shows the first time that Cabot came back to England,because of he found a new land for England at this time, everyone saw him as a hero.

This is also a picture of John Cabot. He is on a ship and looking at a land in front of him.He looks very mature at this time.There are another three person in this picture on the ship.They all are standing on the floor to watch .It seems that they will arrived at the destination soon. I think this picture talks about the period when Cabot found the new land.
2. Who is John Cabot? Tell me ten facts (real information) about him.

I learn many things about Cabot by searching on Internet.He is an Italian navigator

and explorer. He was probably born in Genoa, Italy around 1450, (he died in 1496)but he moved to Venice and that is where he most likely learned to sail.In 1484, he moved again, this time to Bristol in England. That's when he decided to call himself John Cabot, the "English" version of his name. Like Columbus and others of his time, Cabot believed that Asia could be reached by sailing westward. Up until then, the only known way to get to Asia was by going east. Some wealthy Englishmen liked his ideas and paid for him to lead an westward expedition to Asia. They were anxious to find an easier and quicker way to bring back goods from Asia to trade in Europe.

3.Why is he important to Canadian history?

He discovered the “New Founde Landes” which now is know as Newfoundland, Canada.He explored North America for England in 1497 he sailed to what is now eastern Canada,so he is very important to Canadian history.

4.Why did he leave Europe?

Cabot left Bristol on his ship the Matthew and sailed west with the intention of finding China or Japan. (Asia)

5.What happened to John Cabot?

He made his first voyage to North America (which he thought was Asia) in 1497. The ship was called the Matthew and had a crew of 18 men. He sailed northwest, through the stormy Atlantic Ocean, and eventually came to North America. He sailed along the coast, past Labrador, Newfoundland, and New England. He claimed the land he found for England. King Henry VII was pleased with his efforts and granted Cabot a pension of 20 pounds a year.
On the second voyage in 1498, John Cabot and three of his four ships disappeared in stormy weather, never to be seen again.(when i search on the Internet, i found out there

I learned lots of things in this clip.this clip said that after Columbus,John Cabot tried to find goods from Asia.By the help of king heary 7, he sailed. a month later, he found a land --"new founde landes". when he came back he became a hero ,because he found a new land for England .he said that there are so many fish over there, so many fish man came to there.the next year, Cabot went back,but this time ,it ended in disaster. After three years ,another navigator came to there and he found some people ,he took 50 people back, but in the end ,all of them died.
