SAMUEL DE CHAMPLAIN

This is a picture of samuel de champlain.A strapping man.Wearing armor, looking up into the faraway sky.His eyes, as determination as the sword which is hold on his hand.Metals shining and shining under the sun.His soldier waiting and waiting for his order.He looks like the king of the world.To face future, to face unknown bravely.

Who is he? What is his nationality? What is his background?
who is he? --Samuel de Champlain was a French explorer, navigator, and mapmaker. He explored much of eastern Canada and became known as the "father of New France", which was the French part of Canada.
what is his nationality? --Champlain was born in Brouage, France.
what is his background? --Whe he was a boy , he learned how to navigate ships, and became a naval captain, like his father.As i know,his father was a ship-captain. Early in life he entered the army and became quartermaster of cavalry. He Became a Mariner, then a Soldier to travel.


2. What is his relationship with Canada? Why is he important to Canada?
He explored much of eastern Canada and became known as the father of New France, which was the French part of Canada.He was Quebec City's and New France's Governor.He went to Canada, made a very accurate map of Canada from Hudson Bay in the north down to the Great Lakes, and he founded a settlement and trading post along the St. Lawrence River that eventually became the city of Quebec. It was the first permanent white settlement in Canada, which makes Quebec the oldest city in Canada.--He is the founder of Quebec City.
3. When did he explore? What was happening during history at this time?

In 1603 he went on his first voyage to Canada.His exploration is from 1603--1633 or 1636?(I am not sure about this).what was happening during history at this time?--is this question means what is happened in history at this time?In 1607 the British established the first colony in North America--Virginia. Connection:After he find Quebec, in 1629 ,Quebec was captured by the English and Champlain was taken to England as a prisoner.

This is a very good picture that shows every explorations of Champlain, the only thing is it cannot be shown very clear on the blog...Anyway,In 1603 he went on his first voyage to Canada, travelled up the Saguenay, St. Lawrence, and Richelieu rivers and used the information he collected to make a very accurate map of Canada from Hudson Bay in the north down to the Great Lakes.
In 1604 Champlain made his second trip to North America.Champlain remained for three years, exploring the Atlantic coast from the Bay of Fundy down to Cape Cod.On his third trip in 1608, Champlain founded a settlement and trading post along the St. Lawrence River that eventually became the city of Quebec. It was the first permanent white settlement in Canada, which makes Quebec the oldest city in Canada.
5. Why did he explore? What were his reasons for exploration?
He explore for many reasons. At first, he was looking for a place where French people could make a permanent settlement.After finished his goal --finding Quebec City.His want to map North America. he wanted to find a quicker way to get to the Pacific Ocean. Teaching North American natives about Christianity is also one of his goal.
6. How did he explore? What transportation methods did he use?














His exploration is very successful.He finined almost his goal.To find Quebec, to map.He is a excellent navigator.For what transportation methods did he use, um...By using ship?(Is that this question means?!)I also found a picture to describe the ship he used.
